Λίγες μέρες πριν την εμφάνισή τους στο Gimme Shelter Festival (ΔΕΛΤΙΟ ΤΥΠΟΥ), είχαμε την ευκαιρία να κάνουμε μια μικρή κουβέντα με το Thrash\Death Metal σήμα των Nevrosa. Είναι η πρώτη φορά που επισκέπτονται την Ελλάδα και από ό,τι μας είπαν, θα φροντίσουν να την κάνουν ξεχωριστή. (Scroll down for the English version)
-Γεια σας από την Ελλάδα. Με λένε Βαγγέλη Γιαννακόπουλο και σας καλωσορίζω στο Rockway.gr.
Πρώτο live στην Ελλάδα και παίζετε με τους Firewind. Έχετε ξαναπαίξει με τους Firewind;
Prika: Ναι, έχουμε παίζει σε κάποια festival στο παρελθόν. Έχουμε παίξει μαζί και στο “70.000 tons of Metal” στις ΗΠΑ το 2016. Ωστόσο είμαι πολύ ενθουσιασμένη που θα ξαναπαίξουμε μαζί και είναι και η πρώτη μας φορά στην Ελλάδα.
-Εκτός από τους Firewind είχατε την ευκαιρία να παίξετε και με άλλες ελληνικές μπάντες σε festival;
Prika: Ναι, έχουμε παίξει αρκετές φορές με τους Rotting Christ, Septicflesh και Suicidal Angels.
-Έχετε υποστεί αρκετές αλλαγές στο lineup μέσα στα χρόνια. Αυτό ήταν παραγωγικό για την μπάντα ή μερικές φορές γινόταν και τροχοπέδη;
Prika: Γενικά δοκιμάζουμε συνεχώς καινούργια πράγματα για να έχουμε τελικά κάτι που πραγματικά θέλουμε. Η νέα εποχή του internet δεν βοηθάει στο να γνωρίζεις πραγματικά τους ανθρώπους. Υπάρχουν πολλά κορίτσια τα οποία δεν έχουν εμπειρία και όταν ξεκινά η επαγγελματική ζωή ενός μουσικού τότε συνειδητοποιούν ότι ήθελαν κάτι διαφορετικό. Οι περισσότεροι άνθρωποι δεν είναι έτοιμοι να ζουν το 90% της ζωής τους στον δρόμο και να κάνουν μουσική.
Η εξέλιξη έρχεται από όλες τις εμπειρίες και από ό,τι έχει περάσει η μπάντα. Από όλα αυτά βλέπω μόνο εξέλιξη, επειδή μου έδωσε την ευκαιρία να τα πάω καλύτερα μετά από κάθε αλλαγή.
-Το επερχόμενο album σας έχει τον τίτλο “Jailbreak”. Είναι ένα concept album; Αν ναι, μπορείτε να μας πείτε λίγα λόγια για αυτό;
Helena: Δεν θα έλεγα ότι είναι concept. Δεν είχαμε κάτι συγκεκριμένο στο μυαλό μας όταν το γράφαμε αλλά η θεματολογία του αφορά τις ανθρώπινες σχέσεις και γενικότερα για την ζωή.
–Απολαμβάνω την προσέγγισή σας στην μουσική. Ένα όμορφο μείγμα thrash και death metal. Είναι κάτι το οποίο επιδιώκετε ή απλά είναι ο τρόπος που θέλετε να εκφραστείτε;
Helena: Ναι, θέλαμε να πετύχουμε αυτόν τον ήχο αλλά είναι κάτι που μας βγαίνει πολύ φυσιολογικά. Από την αρχή, οι ιδέες και τα riff ήταν αναμειγμένα με αυτόν τον τρόπο και μας άρεσε, οπότε συνεχίζουμε να δουλεύουμε έτσι.
-Το thrash είναι ένα αρκετά “μάτσο” είδος. Έχετε βιώσει σεξισμό;
Helena: Ο σεξισμός υπάρχει ακόμα και όχι μόνο στην μουσική, αλλά τα πράγματα πάνε πολύ καλύτερα συγκριτικά με το παρελθόν. Όλο και περισσότερες γυναίκες μπαίνουν στο είδος, όπως βλέπουμε όλο και περισσότερες γυναικείες μπάντες. Οπότε πιστεύω ότι αυτή η διάκριση\προκατάληψη αρχίζει να εξαφανίζεται.
-Η Βραζιλία έχει παράδοση στο thrash και το death metal. Πιστεύεις ότι αυτή η παράδοση οφείλεται στις πρώτες μπάντες που ξεκίνησαν να έχουν αυτόν τον ήχο ή με την κοινωνική και πολιτική κατάσταση της χώρας;
Prika: Πιστεύω ότι οφείλεται στα πάντα που έχουμε εκεί. Εννοώ ότι η Βραζιλία είναι μια τεράστια χώρα με πολλές και διαφορετικές κουλτούρες και είδη μουσικής, αυτό έχει κάπως επηρεάσει το “groove” μας γιατί όλα εκεί είναι groovy. Επίσης, οι εμπειρίες μας και η πραγματικότητα που βιώνουμε μας εξοργίζει αλλά αυτό φαίνεται περισσότερο στους στίχους.
-Ποια είναι τα σχέδια προώθησης του δίσκου που θα βγει σε λίγες μέρες;
Helena: Πέρα από τα live στην Ελλάδα, έχουμε ήδη επιβεβαιώσει μια περιοδεία στο Μεξικό και την συμμετοχή μας στα Metal Hammer Paradise και 70000 tons of Metal. Εκτός από αυτά έχουμε αρκετές σκέψεις για να παίξουμε και να προωθήσουμε το καινούργιο album παγκόσμια.
-Η μπάντα δίνει την εντύπωση ότι είναι συνεχώς στον δρόμο. Είναι κάτι που έχετε επιλέξει ή είναι αναγκαίο για να μπορείτε να ζείτε από την μουσική;
Helena: Σίγουρα η μπάντα κάνει πολλά live. Νομίζω ότι ήταν επιλογή της μπάντας από την αρχή. Όταν αποφασίζεις να δημιουργήσεις μια live μπάντα, τότε θα πρέπει να είσαι συνεχώς στον δρόμο για να μπορείς να έχεις εισόδημα.
-Μπορείς να μας περιγράψεις το πιο αστείο σκηνικό που σας έχει τύχει ενώ είστε σε περιοδεία;
Helena: Σε ένα live που είχαμε στην Βραζιλία πέρσι, είχε πολύ ζέστη και υγρασία. Ο χώρος ήταν γεμάτος και η σκηνή πολύ μικρή, μπροστά στον κόσμο χωρίς καθόλου κενό. Όταν ξεκίνησε το live τότε έγινε κόλαση (με την καλή έννοια). Ο κόσμος έκανε moshpits, crowdsurfing κι εμείς όταν κάναμε headbanging στην σκηνή σχεδόν χτυπούσαμε αυτούς που ήταν στις πρώτες σειρές.
-Θα ακούσουμε καινούργιο υλικό στο live σας στην Αθήνα;
Helena: Σίγουρα! Θα θέλαμε να παίξουμε περισσότερα κομμάτια από το καινούργιο album, αλλά κυκλοφορεί στις 29 Σεπτεμβρίου, οπότε δεν μπορούμε.
-Αν δεν είχα ακούσει τίποτα από Nervosa, ποιο κομμάτι θα πρότεινες να ακούσω πρώτο;
Helena: Seed of Death
-Αν είχες την δυνατότητα να διοργανώσεις ένα festival, ποιες μπάντες θα καλούσες;
Helena: Χαχαχα, θα μπορούσα να φτιάξω μια λίστα για ένα 4ήμερο festival, αλλά θα προσπαθήσω να το κρατήσω μικρό. Οπότε θα ήθελα να έχω τους Led Zeppelin, Queen, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Scorpions, Black Sabbath.
-Θες κάτι να πεις στους Έλληνες οπαδούς σας;
Helena: Ετοιμαστείτε για αυτό που έρχεται. Είναι η πρώτη μας φορά στην Ελλάδα οπότε θα την κάνουμε ξεχωριστή.

-Hello from Greece. My name is Vangelis Giannakopoulos and I welcome you in Rockway.gr webzine.
First show in Greece together with Firewind. Have you played before with Firewind?
Prika: Yes, we played together in some festivals in the past, and we played together in the “70.000 tons of Metal” in the USA in 2016. But I’m very excited to play together again and for the first time ever in Greece.
-Beside Firewind, did you have the chance to play in the same festival with any other Greek band?
Prika: Yes! We played many times in the same festivals with Rotting Christ, Septicflesh and Suicidal Angels.
-You have suffered from an extensive lineup change through the years. This was productive for the band, or you think that sometimes was a drawback?
Prika: I think we are constantly trying things to have something that really works. This new era of internet doesn’t help so much to know really well the people. And there are a lot of girls that don’t have experience, and when the real professional musician life start, they realize they want something different. Most part of the people are not ready to live 90% on the road and making music.
The evolution come from all the experiences and everything that the band passed through. But I see much more evolution, because it gave to me opportunity to make better in every change.
-Your upcoming album is called “Jailbreak”. Is it a concept album? If yes, may you please analyze the concept behind it?
Helena: I wouldn’t say that is a concept album exactly, I mean in the beginning we didn’t had in mind to analyze one specific topic but in the end the general topic of the album is about human relations and how life works in general.
-I really enjoy your approach in music. A beautiful blend of thrash and death metal. Is it something you are trying to achieve, or it is the way you want to express yourself?
Helena: Yes, we wanted to achieve that but also it came out pretty naturally. From the beginning the ideas and the riffs were mixed like that so we were happy with it and we continued working in the same way.
-Thrash metal is considered quite “muscular” genre. Have you witnessed sexism?
Helena: Sexism still exists for sure not only in music business but things are going really better considering the past. More and more women, more and more female bands are getting into the genre, so this kind of discrimination starts to disappear.
–Brazil has a tradition in thrash and death genre. Do you think that this tradition created from the first bands, or it has to do with the environment and social\political situation in Brazil?
Prika: I think is about everything that we have there, I mean Brazil is a huge country with a big amount of different cultures and styles of music, this is somehow influence in our “groove” because everything there is very groovy. But also, our experience in our reality reflect in our angriness with many problems that we face day by day, but actually this is more about lyric side.
–Which are the plans to promote the new record?
Helena: Apart from the Greek shows we have already confirmed a tour in Mexico, Metal Hammer Paradise fest in November, 70000 tons of Metal in January and we have a lot of plans in the new year about playing and promoting the new album worldwide.
–The band gives the impression that is always on the road. Is it matter of having an income to live or a matter of choice?
Helena: The band plays a lot that’s for sure!!! I think it was a choice of the band since the beginning. If you are taking the decision that the band is a live band then also you have to be on the road to make your income.
–May you please describe us the funniest moment you remember while you were on a tour?
Helena: It was in a show we did in Brazil last year. It was very hot and humid, the venue packed and the stage was very small and right in front of the people with no gap at all so, as the show started everything became a hell (in a good way). People were doing moshpits, crowdsurfing, we were headbanging on stage and almost hitting accidentally the people in the front row.
–Are we going to hear any new material in Athens?
Helena: For sure! Of course, we would like to play more songs from the new album but it’s not possible since it will be released on 29th of September.
–If I have never heard anything from Nervosa, which song would you suggest to hear first?
Helena: Seed of Death
-If you had the chance to create a festival, which bands would you invite?
Helena: Haha I could fill a list for a 4 day festival but I will try to keep it very short. So, I would go with Led Zeppelin, Queen, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Scorpions, Black Sabbath.
-Anything you want to say to your Greek fans?
Helena: Get ready for what is coming. It’s our first time in Greece and we are gonna make it special!
